Thailand, 16. Dec, 2002 05:08:00, Don: Foodmarket at Chatuchack Sunday market Foodmarket at Chatuchack Sunday market
Hello!
After a pleasant flight (apart from the fact that although I had the emergency exit, my leg room was seriously reduced by the bulging door _sigh_) I arrived at Bangkok airport. A strange feeling, coming back after so short a time. Cool feeling to know where to go to. I arrived at my friend Ainoa´s (who is staying here for 2 years working at a teacher) apartment hotel and went straight to the gym and pool. Afterwards I scouted around the area and was pleasantly surprised to find loads of the great one-man kitchens. So I had some Pad Thai and finished on some yummy white bread and green Thai custard.
I was a little bit late to catch up with some of Ainoa´s colleagues but went anyway and just arrived in time. Jessica, Lori and some friends of theirs went to a nice bar where we hung out and talked about their time and my plans etc.
Most of the next day I spent going to the Chatuchac weekend market. With pride I can say I managed to go by bus – not an easy tasks. I almost missed the real market, but when I started exploring I found it was massive! I bought a lot of very nice stuff! Ainoa arrived in the evening and we had some found outside talking about her time here, things back home and my future plans.
The next day I went to the good old Kao San Road – and found it a lot less stressful than in February. I bought a ticket to Sukhothai – the old capital of Thailand – as the upcoming lantern festival, Loy Kratong, is supposed to nicest there. After wandering around a little bit more I met Ainoa at Ratchadamern Muay Thai boxing stadium as she had not seen this sport before. Exciting as last time!
Of course I left too late next morning and just barely made it to Kao San to get the minibus. As that got us to the main station, I concluded that from now on I am going to buy my tickets myself. On the regular bus a girl (Orit) and guy (Kuchy) from Israel were sitting in the row behind me. As they were going to the same place, we decided to stick together to find some accommodation.
Take care for now,
Cu don
